Authorization Workload
Understand the work required to manage authorization requests across the process.
A new way to measure the work behind prior authorization.
Prior authorization performance has traditionally been discussed through approval rates, denial rates, and turnaround times. But those numbers don't capture how much work it actually takes to get an authorization resolved.
The Prior Auth Operating View Framework expands how that work can be measured.
Developed by The Prior Auth Index, it introduces three connected areas of measurement: Authorization Workload, Failure Origin, and Resolution Burden. Together, they offer a structured approach to examining the operational demands of prior authorization and identifying patterns that traditional reporting may miss. The framework is an emerging approach developed by The Prior Auth Index, not an industry-validated measurement standard.
The framework is accompanied by the 30-Day Visibility Pilot Guide, giving organizations a practical starting point for applying it to their own operations.
The Operating View provides a common structure for examining authorization work across three areas.
Understand the work required to manage authorization requests across the process.
Identify where problems begin and the circumstances associated with them.
Measure the additional effort required to move requests toward resolution.
Everything you need to review the framework and begin evaluating how it could work within your organization. Both resources are available without registration.
Start with the framework itself. See how the three measurement areas fit together and what each is designed to capture.
